Grizzly Bear

The grizzly's track is different from the black bear. The nails are longer and they have joined toe marks.

Grizzlies are among the most incredible of living animals. A large male can weigh up to 1300 pounds. It's strength is immense. With a single swat of a heavy paw it can smash the spine of a moose.

A bear's sense of smell is almost unparalleled. Far better than any dog.

In North America, Grizzlies are now only in the mountains and northern wilderness. And until quite recently, they also roamed across the Great Plains where they were a part of the now vanished world of the Buffalo.

Young bear remain under the protection of the mother for about two and a half years.
